This tire carrier is a very well built and heavy duty carrier, the other review most likely is due to him not shimming his tailgate during install. It very easy, take some spare cardboard and close the tailgate on it before removing the bolts on the hinges. If you do that you shouldn’t have any problems.

I have had this spare tire carrier on my Jeep now for almost a week. Overall, the quality is great, it is definitely heavy duty and I am sure can take a beating. However, the instructions are very minimal and made it a lengthy install. The other big issue is that my tailgate now sags and I have to lift it slightly to get it to close and lock. There is nothing in the instructions that says how or if this can be adjusted. I am assuming the extra weight added on to the tailgate from this carrier is causing it to sag now. I reached out to Aries about this issue and received no response.
